Bring The Beach To You By Throwing The Best Beach Party in The Midwest!

Can’t afford to go to Florida, Hawaii, or even the Great Lakes this summer? No worries! Learn how to bring the beach to your own backyard and have a raging party that will be sure to make a SPLASH! Your friends will greatly appreciate the “free vacation” you are giving them to your own private beach.

Invitations – Do you want an invitation that screams, “PARTY OF THE YEAR!?” Of course you do! Inflate beach balls and write your party info on them with a permanent marker. Then deflate the beach balls and mail them to your guests. Guests will have to inflate them for party details!

Don’t want to make your potential guests pass out? Simply roll a glue stick across the bottom of your invitations or envelopes and dip them in sand to give them a fun beach-y feel!

Costumes – Who says costumes are only for Halloween? Have a beachwear contest! Invite your guests to wear their best/craziest beach outfit to the party to win a prize!  List ideas like grass skirts, coconut bras, scuba gear, sunglasses, flotation devices, and more! Make a funny trophy for the winner out of a decorated pineapple or create a crown out of a Hawaiian hat. Just watch out for the guys that show up in bikinis! Ooh-la-la!

Decorations – Now it’s time to turn your backyard into a beach! Drag your sunbathing chairs out of the garage, fill up the baby pools, and steal your kids’ slip-n-slide!  Create your own tiki bar by putting a tablecloth over a tall table then hot glue grass skirts to the edges. Hang a sign across the front that says, “[Insert Your Name Here]’s Tiki Bar,” “Time flies when you’re having rum!” or “What happens here… we’ll talk about all week!” And don’t forget to include leis, tiki torches, and beach themed napkins, plates, and cups in your décor!

Food – You know what’s scary? Jaws. You know what’s awesome? Carving Jaws’ head out of a watermelon. Submarine sandwiches, gold fish crackers, fresh fruit kabobs, and sand castle cake (use crumbled graham crackers for sand) are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to beach themed food. Use your imagination to find the perfect food for your party. Or if your imagination already went on vacation, you can always resort to Google!

Tunes – To really make your backyard a beach, it has to feel like a beach, even when your eyes are closed! Add some Hawaiian, Jamaican, or tropical music to your playlist to give your party that beachside feel! Try some of these beach songs to complement your party playlist:

*”Some Beach” – Blake Shelton
*”Two Piña Coladas” – Garth Brooks
*”Toes” – Zach Brown Band
*”When the Sun Goes Down” – Kenny Chesney
*”Margaritaville” – Jimmy Buffet

Party Favors – Buy some cheap seashells and turn them into candles by filling them with melted candle wax and a small wick. Guests will envy the crafty candles and will love them even more when they find out they get to take one home! Not into candles? Try giving your guests fun drink glasses they can use all night and then take home (Don’t forget to buy tiny umbrellas for your glasses, too!)!

Games – The party hasn’t started until the coconuts start rolling! Create coconut beach bowling by setting up 10 pineapples in the shape of a pyramid, mark a line 20 feet from them with a rope or tape, and have your guests roll a coconut to see how many pineapples they can knock down. Give guests prizes if they can knock all the pineapples down in one try. Got sand? Try hosting a sand castle contest! Load sand into baby pools and provide buckets of water.  Don’t forget to include beach volleyball, a hula-hoop contest, limbo, a water balloon fight, and a hula dance off (Make it interesting with a Mr. Hula dance off, too!).
